Give each request a shared context

A request may cross a web layer, an API, and a database. Propagating request identifiers and trace context connects otherwise isolated events. Log service, route, status, and duration, while excluding passwords, tokens, and sensitive payloads.

Complexity inside. Clarity on the outside.

Choose metrics around user experience

Request volume describes load, error rate reveals failures, and latency percentiles expose tail experience. Alerts should map to actionable problems. Without an owner and a response plan, alerts become noise.

Design the recovery path

Observability extends beyond dashboards. Document diagnosis steps, rollback procedures, and incident reviews to connect detection with recovery.
